Clue! Rules and Information Empty
PostSubject: Clue! Rules and Information   Clue! Rules and Information EmptyAugust 31st 2014, 12:56 pm

What is Clue?

Clue is a game based on murder, mystery, and detective work! One person out of the players is responsible for killing someone each night. It’s up to the players to use their thinking skills and detective work to find out who it is before the murderer kills all of them!

Uuuh Clue? Like the board game? How do you play that on a forum?

Well random asking person, I’ll tell you! As we all probably know from playing it as children,! The way we will be playing it here on the forums, is a kind of long and descriptive set of information, so…I’ll just start explaining now.

How it works

Before the game even starts, you will receive a PM from the Game Host explaining your name, some sort of traits/bio about your character, and if you’re the Murder or not. Clue is a roleplaying game! Though it is very relaxed and even people who don’t really know how to roleplay can join in on the fun!

Clue has a Lights On and a Lights Out phase. During the Lights On phase players can vote to knock out(removing them from the game). Usually it’s based on who they think might be the killer, though sometimes it’s just random. Lights Out phase is where players can use their special abilities., if they’ve been assigned any.

The Murderer: PMs the Game Host with their decision on who they’re going to kill and how they will do so. There can be more than one depending on the size of the game. If there is more than one Murderer, then they will have to decide together who and how they wish to kill someone.

Protector: PMs the Game Host with who they would like to protect that night. If the Murderer tries to kill that person, the target will not die. The Protector can also sometimes, depending on the game, choose to protect their area!

Innocents:
Though the Innocents don’t have special powers like the Murderer or Protector, they are active during the Lights Out phase! During this phase, they move around the room and search for any clues they can find. The Game Host will roll a di or use a random number generator to determine which one person will receive a really helpful and valuable clue. This could be anything from a character’s Diary, the object/weapon used to kill someone, or something on a dead person’s body that points to how they were killed.

Everyone else might receive smaller clues that don’t make much sense, but with some imaginative thinking, it could lead them right to the culprit! These clues usually either point to where someone might have been before they were killed or point to the Murderer behind the killings! The Murderer can also find some clues!

Sometimes, a person will find an item. Items can be useful to that person and the whole group, if they wish to share their findings. Though beware, because sometimes items are just there for entertainment and aren’t meant to be anything! The items that will be available to find will be up to the Game Host, though they need approval from a Moderator or Admin first!

Earlier, I mentioned that your could find a character’s Diary! Well, diaries are very important to the Clue game. They can either be extremely helpful or not help at all. The Game Host will write the first entry to help fill the player in on what’s going on, who you are, what your motive is, etc etc. Sometimes the Game Host will hide small hints as to who is trustworthy in the game. Players fill out their diaries however they’d like, there is no specific way to do so. You could act like it’s an actual Diary and write in it like you would your actual one. You could just list Clues, Items, and Suspicions. It’s really up to however you wish to play/fill it out! The Diary will need to be wrote in at the end of every Lights Out phase. To do so, you write a PM stating which Diary Entry Number it is and then fill in your Diary however you’d like. There are certain rules though for filling it out and some special things that occur when it’s found!

You can not outright lie in your Diary. Everything you write in your Diary must be true, to an extent. You can not write as though you’re the Protector or Murderer if you’re an Innocent person, but you can try to hint at it and try to get whoever happens to find and read your Diary to believe you are the Protector/Murderer. But you can not say I’m the Protector straight forwardly like that!

When the game first begins, you get to select which room you would like to hide your Diary. To do so, you PM the Game Host with which room you’d like to hide it in and where! You are allowed to move your Diary during the game, but your character must either be in the room the Diary is hidden or in the room they wish to move the Diary to!

Diaries are considered special clues, so in order for a person to be able to find it, they must be in the room where it is hidden and the di/random number generator will have to roll their number that night. If a character is killed their Diary turns from a special clue to just a normal clue and will be found by anyone searching that person’s room. The Diary of a person who has been killed can be found during the Lights On phase, but only if searched for in the correct room.

If your Diary is found, the Game Host will send you a PM that it’s been tampered with. They’ll either say it’s pages have been messed with, or it’s not exactly in the same position you placed it, etc etc. If you receive this message, you could then roleplay about how they are upset about their Diary being messed with, if you wish!

After the roles have been sent to the players, and everyone’s Diary has been hidden, the game will then officially begin! It’s up to the Game Host how they wish to begin the game, with either you all in the same room or where you were when the murder happened. And of course, there are some actual rules for playing the game!

Game Rules

1. The Game Host is basically God during the game. What they say goes. Only the Host is allowed to hand out clues and items. If you want your character to find an specific item or clue, then you must go to that room specifically and hope the Host has hidden it there.

2. It is also the Host’s job to announce when the phases change. If it is the Lights On phase, just because everyone has voted, doesn’t mean it’s automatically the Lights Out phase. Only the Game Host can change the phases!

3. When changing locations (Rooms), make where you’re going bold and in some sort of color! This helps the host know exactly where you’re going and that you actually want to go there, not just thinking about it.

4. During the Lights Out phase, depending on the room you’re in and if there’s anyone else in that same room, you will receive a PM from the Game Host to a private forum. There you can talk to the person/people in the room and share information!

5. When voting to knock someone out during the Lights On phase, bold and red your vote. If you change your mind, bold and green your vote. Once you’re Knocked Out, you’re out of the game. You will not get any final posts or be allowed to update your Diary.

6. During Lights Out phases, you can choose where your character will search. Each Lights Out phase will have every character find a clue of varying importance. A di or random number generator will be used. If it comes up with the number assigned to your character, you will find a important clue in the room they are in, if the Game Host has decided to hide an important clue in that same room. If someone is knocked out, any searched can find that person’s diary if they are searching in the same room where that character has hidden their Diary.

7. When the Murderer kills someone during the Nights Out phase, it will not be announced by the Game Host in the official Clue game thread. The Game Host will write a short message about the method and nature of the person’s death in the private board or via PM if you’re the only one searching that room. Only the people in that room will know about this person’s death. It is up to the player/players in the room to RP and announce the death of their companion to the rest of the group.

8. You can not use any of the Game Host’s PMs to make a claim. You can only use your Diary to do so.

9. In order to use your Diary to make a claim you must leave the room you’re in and go to the room where you’ve hidden your Diary. You then must wait for the other players to roleplay about you leaving. (Example: Where did Soandso go? ) You then can return to the room and show your Diary to the group then.

10. Showing Diaries can only happy after the third Lights Out phase.

11. Any Out of Character(OOC) comments needs to be placed under a spoiler alert that is titled ‘Ooc’ (Example☺ There will most likely be a thread just for Out of Character discussions and questions and such!

12. You can not delete or edit your posts. If you misspelled or misspoke, you’ll have to make an OOC post asking that the Game Host fix it if it bothers you that badly.

13. You must be active. If you don’t have the time to read, post, and whatever else at least for an hour or so a day, then don’t play. If you haven’t posted in a 36 hour time period, you will be considered dead and maybe even replaced by someone else who would like to play. There’s a lot that happens in a pretty short amount of time. So if you don’t have the time to keep up with it and post, then don’t join
