What is Mafia?
Mafia is a multiplayer game that's based on deceit, insticts, and trusting yourself. Each game has two groups, The Mafia and The Townies. The Mafia's goal is to stay under the radar of the other players, but plot to kill someone each night. The Townies goal is to try and discover who is in the Mafia and vote to lynch them during the day, killing all members of the Mafia before the Mafia kills them. However, the Townies need to be careful not to lynch their Doctor, Cop, or other Townies.

Alright. The players vote during the day phase, with the majority of votes winning. The day phase lasts 48 hours and during this time the players can discuss any information they found out during the night or any suspicions they have about who the Mafia could be. Each player can then cast a vote to either no lynch(kill) someone or vote to lynch a specific player in the game.During the night phase, the Mafia roams around the area and discusses who they wish to kill. The Townies won't hear this conversation though, as they will be sleeping(aka they talk about it in another board =P). Once they have chosen their victim, one person sends a message to the Host of the game with their decision.  In a very basic game of Mafia, there is always a Doctor and a Cop. Game Hosts can choose to add a few more roles, if they wish to, but every game will include a Cop and Doctor. The Doctor and the Cop get to use their special perks at night as well. Basic Mafia Power Roles
Doctor: The Doctor is the protector of the group. Each night phase, they PM the Game Host with the name of the one person they would like to protect that night. If the Mafia targets the same person that the Doctor has chosen to protect, they target will not die.

Cop: The Cop is a very important role to the game. Each night phase, they get to PM the Game Host asking to investigate any player in the game that they’d like. The Host then tells the Cop if the selected person is a Townie, the Doctor, or part of the Mafia. Though the Cop can not directly state who they have found out is innocent or guilty, it is valuable information for the players to have on their side. The Cop can try and get the other players to target a certain player, but can not say ‘Let’s go after Soandso because I investigated them and they’re guilty”.

General Rules of Mafia

1. Do not get offended. Mafia can be a pretty brutal game. It requires the players to be suspicious of one another and accuse them for even the tiniest things. Some people will lie to you, some will tell the truth, some will be rude or whine. It’s all dependent on how someone wishes to play the game. But it’s just that – a game! So do not get offended! If you do, please do not play!

2. Do not edit or delete any of your posts!  I know sometimes we all make spelling mistakes and want to fix them, but just try and refrain from it. This is to ensure that no one is saying something early on in the game and then erasing it so that the players can’t go back and re-read it. Or someone phrases something a certain way, then realizes it makes them sound like the Mafia…so they erase it! And we can tell when it has been edited!

3. When you’re casting your vote to lynch somebody, make the vote bold and red (Vote to Lynch Kayariah). If you wish to change your vote, make your unvote bold and green (Unvote to Lynch Kayariah) . This way it is easy for the Game Host to count the votes and such! You don’t have to say ‘Vote to Lynch Soandso’, as long as it includes the word lynch, the name of the person, and it’s bold and red/green, then you’re okay!

4. People can claim to be whatever role they wish to. You could be part of the Mafia and tell the other players you’re the Doctor, if you so wish. Just know that in order for other people to believe you, you’re going to have to back it up with some sort of evidence.

5. That being said, you can not use any screenshots or copy and pasting any message from the Game Host to prove your role.

6. Try and be active. Now, sometimes part of someone’s strategy is to just kind of stay in the shadow and watch. This is fine, but if you have a power role (Cop, Doc, Mafia, etc) then you must use your power during the night phase. If you can’t dedicate about 10 or so minutes to read the game thread and let the Game Host know what you wish to do/use your power on…then don’t sign up!

7. This is not a roleplaying game! Some Game Hosts might wish to give you a character name, some traits, and a background. However, you do not roleplay at all, you just post like you’re talking to a friend. The character information is to add spice and flair to individual Mafia games.

8. That being said, if the Game Host wishes to assign you a character name, you must call people by their character names.

9. During the day, if a majority of votes is not reach, the person with the highest votes will be lynched. (Example: If there are 10 players, and 4 vote for XZYS and 3 vote for BYNB and 2 vote for IUNG, then player XZYS would be lynched based on having the most votes against them).

10. If there is a tie at the end of the day phase, there will be no lynch.

11. No Cheating allowed. If the Game Host suspects you of cheating, they have the right to execute you.
